Is Empire Zoysia suitable for coastal Bundaberg and Bargara lawns?

Yes. Empire Zoysia has high salt tolerance and exceptional drought resistance, making it one of the top choices for coastal sandy loam soils and sea-breeze exposure in Bargara, Coral Cove, and Burnett Heads.

How often should you mow Empire Zoysia?

In peak Queensland summer, mow Empire Zoysia every 10 to 14 days at a height of 35mm to 45mm. During cooler months, mowing frequency drops to once every 3 to 4 weeks.

How much water does newly installed Empire Zoysia need?

For the first 2 weeks after installation, water daily to keep the turf slab and underlying topsoil moist to a depth of 10cm. Once established (typically by week 4–6), deep watering once a week during dry periods is sufficient.

Is Sapphire Buffalo good for shady yards in Bundaberg?

Yes. Sapphire Buffalo is widely regarded as the best turf variety for shade in Queensland, tolerating up to 70% shade where sun-hungry varieties like Couch will thin out and die.

Is Sapphire Soft Leaf Buffalo scratchy for kids and dogs?

No. Unlike older common buffalo grasses, Sapphire is bred with a distinct, folding soft leaf that feels gentle underfoot and won't irritate sensitive skin.

What is the best mowing height for Sapphire Buffalo?

Keep Sapphire mown between 35mm and 50mm in sunny spots. In shaded areas, raise the mower height to 50mm–60mm to leave more leaf surface area to capture available sunlight.

What is the difference between Queensland Blue Couch and Tropika Blue Couch?

Tropika Blue Couch is an upgraded, selected variety featuring significantly better resistance to dollar spot fungus, faster self-repairing capabilities, and a denser growth habit that suppresses weeds much more effectively than traditional older variants.

Can Tropika Blue Couch grow in the shade?

No, Tropika Blue Couch is a sun-loving variety. It thrives best in full sun and requires a minimum of 5 to 6 hours of direct daily sunlight to maintain its dense, vibrant blue-green carpet finish.

Does Tropika Blue Couch need a lot of fertilizer?

No. One of the biggest benefits of Tropika is its low nutritional requirements. It maintains its striking color and density with far less fertilizer and watering compared to standard hybrid green couches or buffalo varieties.

Can Wintergreen Couch grow in shaded areas?

No. Wintergreen Couch requires full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day). In heavy tree or fence shade, it will rapidly thin out and develop bare patches; for shaded lawns, Sapphire Buffalo is recommended instead.

How fast does Wintergreen Couch recover from wear and tear?

Wintergreen has one of the fastest recovery rates of any warm-season turf due to its vigorous underground runners (rhizomes) and surface runners (stolons), making it ideal for high-traffic yards with active pets.

What is the best mowing height for Wintergreen Couch in Bundaberg?

Keep Wintergreen cut between 15mm and 35mm. In peak summer growth, mow every 7 to 10 days to prevent thatch buildup and maintain a crisp, bright green finish.
